Everyone Has Their Own Cognitive Fingerprint – No Brain is Alike to Another

When it comes to basic anatomy, all brains are made up of the same thing – gray matter, white matter, neurons, dendrites, axons, water, blood vessels, and fat. However, the innermost workings of the brain are unique from one person to another.

According to research conducted by Yale University, each individual has their own cognitive fingerprint; therefore, no brain is alike to another.

The human brain is a highly fascinating organ that aids in the definition of each of our personalities, our ability to communicate, the manner in which we process thoughts and solve problems, our health, our social-based interactions, and how our bio-activities are directed. This amazing organ performs in a highly distinctive manner. When it comes to children and gauging how they learn, this is highly vital information.

Comparable Neural-Based Activity, Yet Distinct Comprehension

Researchers with Max Planck have established that when brains are exposed to similar degrees of sensory input, there is comparable neural-based activity; however, the ability of the brain to comprehend the input is highly different from one individual to the next. It has been determined that all of the nerve cells contained within the brain are connected through a network that is highly complex. All of the activities that occur within the brain are a direct result of the “firing” of each of these nerve cells. Upon firing, an electrical pulse is sent to other cells that are part of the brain. The dynamics of these specialized activities are unique, just like the individual.

Many educators throughout history have believed that since the brain seems to react to certain methods that those methods work for all when it comes to the learning process; however, this is not at all accurate. No two brains are alike. As a result of this fact, no two students are alike. When we realize this and address students as unique individuals with a very distinct cognitive fingerprint, it is then that we will know the importance of tailoring education to the needs of the child, not the educational institution.

The Learning Process

The learning process that should be utilized to develop the weaknesses of kids is the brain-based process. This is the purposeful and highly engaging group of strategies that focus on how the brain is working when it comes to the context of all things educational. It is a known fact that no two brains are alike; however, the brain plays a highly large role in connecting with all aspects of a child’s development and learning ability. In order to effectively teach a child, we must engage them with strategies that are based on proven and real scientific principles. As a result of this, each child that is struggling or needs help in subjects should be provided with a customized learning plan that will appeal to the unique cognitive fingerprint in which they possess.
