This test is truly the very first step to the rewards and benefits of an enriching, successful military career.

What is the ASVAB Test?

ASVAB stands for “Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery”. This is a test that measures multiple aptitudes.

In fact, it is considered the most widely used testing for those measures in the world. This test measures where your strengths lie, where your weaknesses lie, and your overall potential for success. Once you take the test, you will be provided with information on both basic and military occupations that are suited for you. When seeking a military career, the score associated with the Armed Forces Qualification Test is of the utmost importance. This actually determines if you are qualified for the military.

AFQT Score

The AFQT score is determined by each branch of the service. This outlines the results in the following areas:

  • “MK” – Math Knowledge
  • “AR” – Arithmetic Reasoning
  • “VE” – Verbal Composite

To date, the required AFQT Score associated with each branch of the military is as follows:

  1. 1.       The Army requires a score of 31.
  2. 2.       The Air Force requires a score of 36.
  3. 3.       The Coast Guard requires a score of 45.
  4. 4.       The Marines requires a score of 31.
  5. 5.       The Navy requires a score of 35.

Preparation

To prepare for the ASVAB test, it is imperative to ensure that you have a solid background in science, mathematics, and English. Technical classes may also aid in preparation for the ASVAB test.
