Researchers Find Connection Between Math and Music

Students who play a musical instrument tend to do better in Math than students who don’t, according to a study conducted by James Catterall of The Imagination Project at UCLA’s Graduate School of Education & Information Studies.

The research showed that students who played instruments throughout middle and high school showed higher levels of math proficiency by graduation. Some observers believe that those who participate in music performance tend to be more academically focused in general; they may have been good at math before ever picking up an instrument.
